McNIFICENT SEVEN BOOSTS COBBYDALERS

A hat-trick from Nicky McNally, a brace from Leon Smith and three more goals gave the Cobbydalers a comfortable win against a Daisy Hill side who obviously don’t like the Yorkshire air. Last season they travelled to the Keighley Road ground in the F.A. Vase and ended up losing 6-1.

Unlike Saturday’s narrow victory over Holker Old Boys which was down to keeper Callum Jakovlevs’ fine saves, this was a victory for the forwards, whose swift  pace and touch proved too much for the visitors.

The visitors had the first effort on goal but Ashley Stott shot wide. A pacey run by Chris Wademan saw Silsden break out of defence. The ball was squared to James Gill who slid it into the path of McNally who shot wide. Tim Raines wasted a chance at the other end before Silsden right back, Josh Eastwood, crossed into the box where McNALLY rose like a salmon to head home on five minutes. Three minutes later, Luke Richardson’s diagonal ball was crossed in by McNally for Leon SMITH to make it two.

Daisy Hill responded immediately but Jacovlevs saved Carey Harrison’s close range shot. Wademan then shot over after Josh Kaine had stepped over a cross from a corner and then Hancock was narrowly wide with a low shot.

Hancock and Richardson were bossing the midfield as Silsden looked to dominate their opponents. Wademan saw a low shot saved at the near post then Smith had another effort pushed for a corner. Wademan shot wide following a fifty-yard run by Josh Eastwood.

The pressure soon told and McNally’s pace took him clear. Keeper Dryden came off his line but McNally squared the ball to SMITH who tapped it into an empty net.  Smith narrowly missed completing a hat-trick when he just failed to reach a cross from McNally, who had been released by Eastwood. On the stroke of half time Smith repaid McNALLY with a through ball which was driven home from close range to make it four.

Silsden took their foot off the gas at the start of the second half, allowing Jon STEPHENSON to pull a goal back, but, within two minutes, normal service was resumed as HANCOCK hit a screamer into the top corner from outside the penalty area.

A move from the back, involving Eastwood and Wademan,  ended with RICHARDSON adding a sixth. Silsden looked comfortable but they were indebted to Jacovlevs, who saved from Stephenson and then, at point-blank range, from Simon Farrell, to retain their five goal cushion. The visitors notched a second on sixty-four minutes with Carey HARRISON netting following a break away.

McNALLY completed his hat-trick with eight minutes left before leaving the field with a tweak of his hamstring, the Cobbydalers finished with ten men, having used all their substitutes.

Gill was delighted with the victory which showed the team to be moving in the right direction. However he wasn’t happy that players “took their foot off the gas” in the second half. The Cobbydalers have yet to win “on the road” and Gilly is hopeful that “progress can be maintained” on the long trip to Oswestry on Saturday
